About this position
University of Copenhagen is recruiting a postdoctoral researcher in synaptic physiology and plasticity in the Walter Lab, led by Professor Alexander M. Walter at the Department of Neuroscience, Faculty of Health and Medical Sciences.
The project is funded by an ERC grant and focuses on the molecular and nanoscale mechanisms that regulate synaptic transmission and presynaptic plasticity. The lab studies how synaptic release sites are assembled, modified, and stabilized to support neurotransmission, plasticity, and resilience.
Research approaches include electrophysiology, advanced live imaging, super-resolution microscopy, Drosophila genetics, quantitative image analysis, and mathematical/computational modelling. The project can be tailored toward either synaptic electrophysiology or quantitative live imaging depending on the candidate’s background and interests.
Ideal applicants have expertise in electrophysiology, synaptic physiology, quantitative imaging, biophysics, live-cell or super-resolution imaging, or related experimental disciplines. Experience with Drosophila is welcome but not required. The lab emphasizes rigorous quantitative experimentation, mechanistic interpretation, and collaborative work in a highly interactive neuroscience environment.
The appointment is fixed-term for 2 years with possible extension. Salary starts at about 35,000 DKK/month plus pension contributions, and tax reductions may apply for eligible foreign and Danish applicants.
Deadline: 26 July 2026, 23:59 CET. Apply online in English and include a motivation letter, CV, PhD and MSc certificates (or supervisor statement if the PhD is unfinished), publication list, and 2–3 references.
Funding details
Full funding including tuition fees and living expenses is available for this position. The scholarship covers all educational costs and provides a monthly stipend.
How to apply
Please submit your application including a cover letter, CV, academic transcripts, and contact information for two references. Applications should be sent via the online portal before the deadline.
