About this position
Lund University is seeking a Postdoctoral Researcher in Technology and Society as part of the WASP-HS research environment "The AI Welfare State." The position is based at Lunds Tekniska Högskola (LTH) within the research group for AI and society, led by Associate Professor Stefan Larsson. The research focuses on the implications of AI and automation for welfare and the public sector, with a particular emphasis on Swedish or Nordic welfare contexts. The WASP-HS cluster is a cross-university, cross-disciplinary initiative involving Lund University, Karlstad University, and Södertörn University, and collaborates internationally with partners in Finland, Brazil, Italy, and Japan.
The postdoc will engage in empirical data collection (e.g., policy document analysis, stakeholder interviews, participant observation, literature studies), present research at seminars and conferences, and author scientific articles in English or a Scandinavian language. The project is designed to foster independence as a researcher and contribute to the development of theoretical and empirical knowledge about AI vulnerabilities, governance, and technology-impacted practices in welfare states.
Applicants must hold a PhD (or equivalent) in a relevant field, awarded within the last three years (exceptions possible). Required qualifications include strong proficiency in English and Swedish or another Scandinavian language, experience with social science research methods, and the ability to work independently in interdisciplinary projects. Experience in research on AI, algorithms, data, or automation in the public sector, especially from a critical perspective, is essential. The position is full-time for two years, with a start date in September 2026 or as agreed. Employment includes a monthly salary, benefits, and pension scheme as per Swedish public authority standards.
Applications should be submitted via Lund University's recruitment system and must include a cover letter, degree certificate, transcripts, references, and any other relevant documents. The deadline for applications is 17 May 2026. For more information, contact Associate Professor Stefan Larsson at [email protected].
