About this position

The TH Köln - University of Applied Sciences is seeking a postdoctoral researcher (m/f/d) for the DFG-funded project “Cultural Memory in Crisis.” This position is based at the Faculty of Cultural Sciences in Cologne, Germany, and offers a unique opportunity to conduct independent research within the framework of a high-profile interdisciplinary project. The successful candidate will develop an individual qualification project focusing on “Urban Memories in Post-Migrant Society,” contributing to the broader research goals of the DFG project.

Responsibilities include presenting, discussing, and publishing research results, teaching in the Research Master Studies program (2 SWS), and collaborating in the conception and organization of an international conference. The postdoctoral researcher will also contribute to the project’s transfer activities, support workshops and summer schools, and participate in monthly colloquia and the project council. The role emphasizes active engagement with both internal and external research partners and the dissemination of research findings.

Applicants should possess a university degree at the master’s level and an excellent doctoral degree in urban studies, urban history, spatial sociology, urban and cultural anthropology, geography, urban planning, architecture, or a comparable discipline. Research experience in cultural memory, urbanity, and/or post-migrant society is essential. Additional skills such as archival work, urban space analysis, academic course planning, and event management are highly valued. Proficiency in German and English, reliability, and a cooperative, analytical approach are required. TH Köln is committed to equal opportunities and encourages applications from women and individuals with disabilities or comparable status.

The position offers remuneration according to EG 13 TV-L, a supplementary pension scheme (VBL), annual extra payment, 30 days paid vacation, flexible working hours, and a family-friendly working environment. Further benefits include opportunities for professional development, participation in university sports and health programs, and access to digital communication tools. The university is located close to public transport and provides a supportive academic community.

To apply, candidates should submit their application via the TH Köln career portal, including a CV with a list of publications and/or project references, and a 2–3-page project outline related to the DFG project and job profile. The application deadline is January 18, 2026. For additional information, contact [email protected] or visit the provided web links for further details about the project and institution.
