About this position

The Laboratory of Cellular Proteostasis at the International Institute of Molecular and Cell Biology in Warsaw (IIMCB), led by Dr. Lidia Wrobel, invites applications for a Postdoctoral Researcher position. The successful candidate will join a multidisciplinary team working on the SONATA BIS project, "Subcellular localization and function of the ubiquitin-proteasome system in aging and neurodegeneration," funded by the National Science Centre, Poland.

This research focuses on the development and implementation of advanced human neuronal models of aging and neurodegeneration, utilizing induced pluripotent stem cells (iPSCs) and patient-derived fibroblasts. The main goal is to understand how the ubiquitin–proteasome system changes during neuronal aging and in neurodegenerative diseases. The project employs genome-wide CRISPR-Cas9 screening to identify novel regulators of proteasome activity and explores how modulating these factors can restore proteasome function in aging and diseased neurons, ultimately aiming to uncover new therapeutic strategies for neurodegenerative disorders.

The position offers a full-time employment contract (initially for 6 months, with the possibility of extension), a competitive salary of approximately 9700 PLN gross/month, a 13th salary (after at least 6 months of employment in a given year), private medical care, and a Multisport card. The role is 100% research-focused with no teaching obligations, and provides access to state-of-the-art equipment and core facilities. Additional benefits include technical support, mentorship, and opportunities for international training, courses, and conference participation.

Applicants should have a PhD (completed or expected soon) in molecular biology, biochemistry, biophysics, or a related field, and meet the formal competition criteria. Strong motivation and background in protein quality control and neurodegenerative diseases are advantageous. Required skills include hands-on experience in mammalian cell culture (preferably with stem cells or primary cells), practical experience with biochemical and molecular biology techniques, strong organizational skills, and proficiency in written and spoken English. Scientific achievements, including publications and international collaboration, are valued.

Applications must be submitted in English via the eRecruiter portal. Required documents include a CV (with publications and skills), a motivation letter (max one page), a description of key achievements, and contact details for at least two referees. The CV must include a data processing consent statement. The application deadline is April 10, 2026. For further details, visit the Wrobel Lab website or the IIMCB careers page.
