The Laboratory of Prokaryotic Gene Regulation at the International Institute of Molecular and Cell Biology in Warsaw, led by Dr. Ewelina Małecka, is recruiting a Postdoctoral Researcher for a project entitled “Dynamics of RNA degrading complexes in bacteria.” This research, funded by the SONATA BIS grant from the National Science Centre, Poland, aims to unravel the molecular mechanisms governing RNA fate in bacterial cells. The project leverages advanced single-molecule TIRF microscopy, biochemical reconstitution, and fluorescent labeling to observe RNA molecules and degradosome complexes in real time, providing insights into how RNA silencing, translation, and degradation are coordinated.

Key research questions include how sRNAs and Hfq recruit the degradosome to specific mRNAs, what determines RNA preservation or degradation, and how translation and decay interact on the same transcript. The outcomes will have broad implications for synthetic biology, RNA therapeutics, and gene regulation engineering. The laboratory offers access to cutting-edge equipment, including a custom-built TIRF microscope and biochemistry facilities, and provides strong mentorship for independent funding applications and opportunities for international training and conferences.

The position is full-time for 6 months, with the possibility of extension for the duration of the project. The salary is approximately 9700 PLN gross per month, with additional benefits such as a 13th salary after 6 months, private medical care, and Multisport benefit. The role is 100% research-focused, with no teaching duties, and includes support from a lab manager and technical assistant.

Applicants must hold or be about to obtain a PhD in molecular biology, biochemistry, or biophysics, and have solid expertise in RNA or protein biochemistry. Experience with single-molecule techniques is advantageous. Candidates should demonstrate a strong publication record, independence, and fluency in English.
