About this position

The Department of Experimental Physics at Comenius University in Bratislava is offering a postdoctoral position focused on the project "Low‑temperature plasma for seed stress adaptation and reduction of chemical load in agri‑food systems." This research aims to advance sustainable agriculture by applying atmospheric‑pressure low‑temperature plasma for the degradation of pesticides and contaminants, plasma‑assisted seed treatment and priming, and the induction of adaptive stress responses in plants. The project seeks to develop environmentally friendly alternatives to conventional chemical treatments in agriculture.

The successful candidate will join an internationally active plasma research group and conduct experimental research using various plasma sources, plasma diagnostics, surface and biological analyses. Responsibilities include contributing to scientific publications and presenting at conferences. The position offers access to advanced plasma and analytical facilities, publication support, international collaboration, and affordable university accommodation.

Eligibility criteria require applicants to hold a PhD in physics, plasma physics, physical chemistry, biophysics, or related fields, with the PhD successfully defended no more than three years prior to the decision date (10 July 2026). Candidates must not exceed 35 years of age at the time of the decision. Experience in experimental research is essential, and plasma or spectroscopy experience is advantageous. A good command of English is required. The position is initially offered for one year, with the possibility of extension up to a maximum total duration of three years.

Applicants should submit a CV with publication list, motivation letter, and contact details of at least one referee. For further information, contact Assoc. Prof. RNDr. Veronika Medvecká, PhD, at [email protected]. Additional job details and application instructions can be found at the university's postdoctoral opportunities page and the EURAXESS position listing.

The Faculty of Mathematics, Physics and Informatics is located in Bratislava, Slovakia, and offers a vibrant research environment for interdisciplinary work in plasma physics and sustainable agriculture.
