About this position

Johannes Gutenberg University Mainz (JGU) invites applications for a postdoctoral researcher position in Cancer Immunology & Metabolism within the laboratory of Dr. Anne Régnier-Vigouroux. This full-time, temporary position is based at the Faculty of Biology and the Institute of Molecular Biology, offering a vibrant, interdisciplinary research environment in the heart of Mainz, Germany.

The successful candidate will investigate tumour-associated microglia/macrophages (TAMs) as therapeutic targets in glioblastoma, focusing on the interplay between cancer biology, immunology, and metabolism. The research aims to elucidate how inflammatory and metabolic adaptations influence TAM function during tumor progression and to explore strategies for targeting mitochondrial function and reactive oxygen species (ROS) signalling in tumour and immune cells to enhance anti-tumour responses. Special emphasis is placed on cellular adaptation to physiologically relevant oxygen conditions (physioxia vs. hypoxia).

The project utilizes patient-derived 3D tumour models, advanced molecular and metabolic analyses, and preclinical mouse glioma models. The research group is embedded within a dynamic biomedical campus, collaborating with the Faculty of Medicine, the Institute of Molecular Biology, and Max Planck research institutes. The position offers opportunities for collaboration, leadership of experimental research projects, development of innovative approaches in cancer immunometabolism, and the analysis of complex molecular and cellular datasets. Responsibilities also include publishing in international peer-reviewed journals, presenting at conferences, teaching, and supervising students.

Funding & Benefits: The position is funded according to the German public sector pay scale EG 13 TV-L for 2 years, with a possible extension of up to 1 year. Additional benefits include an annual special payment, company pension scheme, flexible working hours, 30 days' vacation, and strong support for academic career development.

Eligibility: Applicants must hold a PhD in Biological Sciences or a related discipline, with a strong background in immunology, molecular and cellular biology, and cancer biology. Advanced expertise in relevant laboratory techniques and excellent English communication skills are required. Experience with immunometabolism, mitochondrial biology, oxidative stress research, 3D culture systems, omics approaches, and mouse models is preferred. Applicants must have a completed scientific university degree in Biological Sciences or Biomedicine and a PhD in Biological Sciences or a related discipline.
