About this position

This postdoctoral position at Mohammed VI Polytechnic University in Morocco offers a unique opportunity to contribute to a multidisciplinary research project focused on the sustainable valorization of potash brine and phosphogypsum. The project emphasizes environmentally friendly bioleaching technologies for extracting valuable resources from industrial by-products, aligning with a circular economy approach to reduce environmental impacts and create value from co-products generated by sedimentary potash processing and phosphoric acid production.

The successful candidate will investigate both physicochemical and biological treatment methods for potash brines and phosphogypsum, aiming to identify optimal pathways for resource recovery. The research will also explore integrated treatment strategies, studying the synergistic and symbiotic effects between these materials within bioprocesses. This work is expected to advance innovative strategies for recovering sulfur, magnesium, potassium, and other valuable elements from industrial residues.

Main responsibilities include conducting comprehensive literature reviews, performing chemical, mineralogical, and physicochemical characterization of materials, designing and executing laboratory-scale experiments, developing and evaluating integrated treatment strategies, analyzing process parameters, interpreting experimental results, and contributing to environmental and sustainability assessments. The postdoctoral researcher will also prepare scientific publications, technical reports, and presentations.

Applicants must have a PhD in chemical engineering, biotechnology, or a related discipline, with proven experience in mineral characterization, liquid analysis, and process development. A strong background in solution chemistry and bioprocessing, excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, scientific writing and communication abilities in English, and the ability to work independently and collaboratively are essential. Application documents required include a cover letter, detailed CV, list of publications, copies of diplomas, and at least two professional references.

The position is based at Mohammed VI Polytechnic University, located in Benguerir, Morocco, and offers a 12-month contract. The application process is managed through the academicpositions.com portal. Candidates are encouraged to submit their applications promptly and ensure all required documents are included.
