About this position

University of Turku is hiring a Postdoctoral Researcher / Senior Researcher for the GAINS project (Generative AI and Digital Solutions: Enhancing Effectiveness and Productivity of Healthcare Services). The position is based at the Department of Economics, Turku School of Economics, and is led by Professor Mika Kortelainen.

This opportunity sits at the intersection of health economics, digital health, artificial intelligence, econometrics, and public policy. The project studies whether and how generative AI and digital solutions can improve the effectiveness, productivity, and sustainability of health and social care services. The work involves empirical research using large-scale register data, causal inference, randomized controlled trials, quasi-experimental designs, and collaboration with policymakers and wellbeing services counties.

The post is open at two career levels. For the Postdoctoral Researcher level, applicants must have completed an appropriate doctoral degree by the deadline. For the Senior Researcher level, applicants should have a higher university degree in a suitable field and be close to completing a doctoral degree. Strong research orientation, experience with register-based data, fluency in English, and evidence of independent scientific research are important. Desirable experience includes RCTs, large administrative datasets, digital health services, AI-based applications, and multidisciplinary teamwork.

Funding is through a fixed-term employment contract from 1 Aug 2026 to 30 Sep 2028. Salary is typically 3700–4200 €/month for a Postdoctoral Researcher and 3200–3800 €/month for a Senior Researcher, depending on qualifications and experience. The role includes a six-month trial period.

To apply, submit your application via the university’s online recruitment system by 15 May 2026 at 16:00 (Europe/Helsinki). Applications must be in English and include a CV following the TENK model, list of publications, motivation letter, degree certificate(s), and any other documents relevant to the appointment.
