About this position

The Department of Economics at the University of Bologna is offering up to three pre-doctoral researcher positions in Climate and Transition Economics as part of the ERC-funded BELIEFS project, led by Professor Emanuele Campiglio. The research focuses on the role of expectations and beliefs in shaping the low-carbon transition, with an emphasis on behavioral macroeconomics, climate transitions, and the economics of sustainability.

Successful candidates will engage in advanced research activities, including data analysis, econometric work, surveys, and modelling, contributing to the understanding of climate-related economic transitions. The ideal applicants should hold a Master’s degree in a relevant field, possess strong quantitative skills, and have experience with analytical tools such as Stata, R, Python, or Julia. A demonstrated interest in climate economics and the low-carbon transition is essential.

The positions are full-time for 12 months, based in Bologna, Italy, and are particularly suitable for those considering a future PhD in Economics or related disciplines. The start date is September 2026, with some flexibility. The application deadline is 7 April 2026.

To apply, candidates should send their CV, transcripts, cover letter, and one reference to [email protected], using the subject line 'Predoc BELIEFS'. For further information or enquiries, contact Professor Emanuele Campiglio. More details can be found on the BELIEFS project website.

This opportunity is ideal for those interested in climate economics, transition economics, behavioral macroeconomics, and sustainability research, and offers the chance to work within a leading European research group at the University of Bologna.
