About this position

The International Max Planck Research School for Quantum Science and Technology (IMPRS-QST), in partnership with Munich Quantum Valley, is offering fully funded doctoral positions for Fall 2025. The program is designed for highly motivated students with backgrounds in physics, material science, quantum engineering, or related fields. Research areas include atomic physics, quantum optics, solid state physics, quantum information theory, and quantum many-body systems. IMPRS-QST is part of the Munich Center for Quantum Science and Technology (MCQST) and provides a vibrant research environment in Munich, Germany.

The program is committed to diversity and encourages applications from female candidates and international students, aiming to recruit at least 50% of its cohort from outside Germany. All instruction and research are conducted in English. Applicants must hold a Master’s degree (or equivalent) by the time of enrollment. The application process is entirely online and requires submission of a CV (without photo), letter of interest and intent, degree certificates and transcripts, and, if applicable, English language test certificates and documentation of scholarships, prizes, or awards.

Two academic referees must be provided for reference letters, which must be submitted by January 22, 2026. The application deadline is January 15, 2026. Successful candidates will receive full funding, including living expenses and tuition. This is an excellent opportunity to join one of Europe’s leading quantum research programs and work alongside world-class scientists in Munich’s dynamic quantum ecosystem.
