About this position
IMT Atlantique, a leading general engineering school within the Institut Mines-Télécom group, is recruiting a Research and Development Engineer or Post-doc in Control Systems for a 12-month fixed-term contract. The position is based at the Nantes campus in France and is part of the HYBA2 project, which aims to develop an industrial hybrid vessel demonstrator to sustainably transform the maritime sector.
Under the supervision of Assistant Professor Fabien Claveau, the successful candidate will join the Department of Automatic Control, Production Systems, and IT (DAPI) and the renowned LS2N laboratory. The role involves analyzing dynamic interactions between the vessel, waves, and fishing gear to refine the system's digital twin. The candidate will improve robustness and performance by exploiting thermal and electric over-actuation, and develop control strategies to ensure propulsion comfort and vibration reduction. Responsibilities also include leading implementation on rapid prototyping computers and participating actively in measurement campaigns.
The ideal candidate must hold a PhD or an engineering degree specialized in automatic control or robotics. Essential skills include robust and optimal control, experience in modeling dynamic systems, and ideally knowledge of machine learning. Candidates should be scientifically rigorous, curious, and enjoy working in multidisciplinary teams.
IMT Atlantique offers a stimulating environment with access to cutting-edge tools such as Micro-Autobox and Matlab for high-level industrial applications. The LS2N laboratory is internationally recognized for its expertise in automatic control. Benefits include an on-site cafeteria, leisure and sports offers, public transport subsidies, sustainable mobility package, family allowance, a wide range of social benefits, partial teleworking, and a generous leave package.
The indicative salary ranges from €33,614 to €35,800 gross per year, depending on profile and experience, with reduced employee social security contributions in the public sector. The contract is a fixed-term (CDD) of 16 months under public law or secondment for civil servants, renewable. The position is open to all applicants, with accommodations available upon request for candidates with disabilities. Applications may be subject to an administrative investigation.
