About this position
IMT Atlantique, a leading general engineering school within the Institut Mines-Télécom group, is recruiting a Research and Development Engineer or Post-doctoral Fellow for a 16-month fixed-term contract in Control Systems. The position is based at the Nantes campus and is part of the HYBA2 project, which aims to validate a hybridization solution for the fishing fleet under real-world conditions to reduce energy consumption and polluting emissions.
The successful candidate will join the Department of Automatic Control, Production Systems, and IT (DAPI) and collaborate with the project team and Vectura System. The main responsibilities include developing the intelligence of the hybridization module, finalizing energy management algorithms, designing new multi-criteria optimization algorithms that consider consumption, emissions, and battery durability, and creating predictive control solutions based on environmental data and fishing cycles. Operational implementation and testing on a demonstrator vessel are integral parts of the role.
Applicants must possess solid skills in optimal control, predictive control, and optimization theory, with significant experience in research and development, ideally applied to energy systems, maritime transport, or automotive sectors. A PhD or engineering degree specialized in control systems is required. The position offers a unique opportunity to contribute directly to the decarbonization of artisanal fishing and to see research outcomes applied in real-world sea trials.
IMT Atlantique provides a rich learning environment, including collaboration with another engineer specialized in control systems. Benefits include an on-site cafeteria, leisure and sports offers, public transport subsidies, sustainable mobility package, family allowance, a wide range of social benefits, partial teleworking, and a generous leave package. The indicative salary ranges from €33,614 to €35,800 gross per year, with reduced employee social security contributions in the public sector.
The contract is for 16 months under public law or secondment for civil servants and is renewable. The position is open to all applicants, with accommodations available for candidates with disabilities. Applications may be subject to an administrative investigation. The application deadline is July 2, 2026, and the contract start date is September 1, 2026. Interviews are conducted on a rolling basis.
