About this position
King's College London is recruiting a Research Associate for the Functional Genomics of the Human Brain cluster within the UK Human Functional Genomics Initiative at the Institute of Psychiatry, Psychology & Neuroscience (IoPPN). The role sits in the Centre for Developmental Neurobiology at Guy's Campus and focuses on how genes linked to neurodevelopmental disorders and psychiatric disorders shape human brain development.
This is a research-intensive post at the intersection of stem cell biology, neuroscience, and functional genomics. The successful candidate will work on loss-of-function mutations and molecular/functional profiling of cortical organoids, with a particular emphasis on generating and using brain organoids and assembloids from human induced pluripotent stem cells (hiPSCs) and embryonic stem cells (hESCs). The post offers access to a collaborative, state-of-the-art environment and the opportunity to contribute to cutting-edge research on brain development and disease.
Eligibility highlights: a PhD in Neuroscience, Developmental Biology, Cell Biology, Genetics, or a related field; strong hands-on experience with neural cell culture and stem cell systems; molecular biology skills including western blot, qPCR, immunofluorescence, RNA sequencing, and cloning; and confocal microscopy experience. Desirable experience includes organoid generation, rodent neuroscience models, single-cell RNA-seq, bioinformatics, and training/supervising others.
Funding and terms: the post is UKRI-funded, full-time (35 hours/week), and fixed-term until 13 May 2028. Salary is £45,031–£52,514 per annum including London Weighting Allowance.
Application window: posted on 9 April 2026 with a closing date of 7 May 2026. Applicants should submit a CV and supporting statement through the King’s College London application portal.
