Texas A&M University–Corpus Christi’s Harte Research Institute is hiring a Research Specialist I or II for the Coastal Water Health Lab in Corpus Christi, Texas. This is a research operations role focused on coastal water quality, phytoplankton ecology, biogeochemistry, and field-based environmental monitoring along the Texas coast.
The position supports water quality monitoring and research in Texas estuaries and includes coordinating field sampling, operating research vessels and university vehicles, training students and research personnel in field safety and boat operations, processing environmental samples, managing and archiving research data, and uploading datasets to repositories and databases.
Eligibility: Research Specialist I requires a bachelor’s degree in a related field plus 4 years of relevant experience, or a master’s degree plus 2 years of related experience. Research Specialist II requires a bachelor’s degree plus 6 years of relevant experience, or a master’s degree plus 4 years of related experience. Preferred experience includes small-boat operation in estuarine environments, use of water quality sondes and environmental monitoring equipment, strong data management and QA/QC skills, outdoor fieldwork capability, strong organization, teamwork, independence, and a valid driver’s license.
Funding and benefits: Salary is listed at $46,036–$59,576 per year depending on qualifications and experience. Benefits include state retirement, health insurance, and vacation/sick leave accrual.
