Senior Research Assistant/Postdoctoral Fellow – ERC RESADL Project (Reimagining Schools Through a Post-Disaster Lens) – 3 Positions Institute for Social Research in Zagreb in Croatia

The Institute for Social Research in Zagreb announces three full-time, fixed-term positions for Senior Research Assistant/Postdoctoral Fellows to join the ERC-funded project RESADL (Reimagining Schools Through a Post-Disaster Lens). This interdisciplinary research initiative, led by Dr Karin Doolan, focuses on educational sciences and examines how schools in six European countries respond to and are transformed by recent disasters, including floods and earthquakes. The project aims to understand the roles schools play in post-disaster settings, exploring both enacted and suppressed functions, and how these roles converge or diverge across different contexts. The research is highly relevant in the context of the climate crisis and seeks to reimagine educational institutions for uncertain futures.

Successful candidates will join a vibrant, internationally oriented research environment at the Institute for Social Research in Zagreb, collaborating with experts in sociology, psychology, anthropology, and related fields. The Institute is recognized for its contributions to education, youth, inequality, urban development, gender, migration, sustainability, and science policy, and participates in major European research networks. The positions offer the opportunity to contribute to impactful, multinational research with strong societal relevance and to be part of a dynamic ERC-funded team.

Applicants must hold a PhD in the interdisciplinary domain, field of Educational Sciences, and demonstrate excellent proficiency in English and one of the following languages: German, Spanish, Greek, Turkish, or Slovenian. Experience in qualitative research is required. Priority will be given to candidates with research experience in Sociology of Education, Psychology of Education, or Anthropology of Education, as well as those with experience studying the effects of climate change and natural disasters on educational processes and a record of publications in influential scientific journals and books.

The positions are funded by the European Research Council (ERC) Consolidator Grant, with employment conditions in line with Croatian Science and Higher Education System regulations and a probationary period of 6 months.
