About this position

The Economic and Social Research Institute (ESRI) is recruiting a Senior Research Officer in Sociology within its Social Research Division in Ireland.

This is a research leadership role for a sociologist with strong quantitative expertise and experience contributing to policy-relevant research. The division is multidisciplinary, bringing together sociologists, economists, epidemiologists, psychologists, health service researchers, and statisticians.

Research areas include social inclusion and equality, health and quality of life, migration and integration, education, employment and workplace, wellbeing of children and young people, behavioural research, and taxation, welfare and pensions.

Eligibility highlights: a PhD in Sociology is essential; applicants should typically have around 8 years of post-doctoral research experience, very strong quantitative skills, and the ability to analyse complex longitudinal data. A strong background in social stratification, educational inequality, social inclusion/equality, or migrant integration research is required, along with experience engaging with policy-makers or external stakeholders.

Role expectations: intellectual and project leadership, mentoring more junior researchers, raising research funds, and frequent engagement with policy-makers and stakeholders.

Application: apply via the ESRI careers page. The closing date is 5pm Irish time on Friday, 03 July 2026.
