About this position
University of Vienna is advertising a Senior Scientist in Numerical Astrophysics for Planetary and Stellar Astrophysics within the Faculty of Earth Sciences, Geography and Astronomy. The position is part of the Solar System Evolution group led by Ass.-Prof. Kristina Kislyakova, whose research focuses on the evolutionary pathways of Solar System bodies, especially Earth, Venus, and Mars, and on understanding the Solar System in the broader context of exoplanets.
The role combines two main areas: contributing to research on atmospheric evolution and leading the development/support of computational tools used in the group’s studies, including identifying suitable solvers for the department’s codes. This is a strong fit for candidates with backgrounds in physics, astronomy, computer science, and related Earth/planetary science areas.
The appointment is a postdoc-level staff position (classification B1 lit. b) starting as early as 1 May 2026 and no later than 1 August 2026. The contract is initially for 3 years with the possibility of becoming permanent by mutual agreement. The salary is a basic gross EUR 5,014.30 per month on a 40-hour week basis, paid 14 times per year, with possible increases based on credited professional experience.
Applicants should submit a single PDF including a motivation letter, CV with publications and presentations, a research statement (max 3 pages), proof of doctoral/PhD degree, and contact details for three referees. Applications must be submitted through the university job portal / Apply now button. The deadline is 3 May 2026.
