Soil Scientist / Agronomist job opportunity in Northern Territory, Australia.

The NT Department of Agriculture and Fisheries, Plant Industries – Agriculture Division, is hiring a Soil Scientist / Agronomist (Professional 2) to support sustainable cropping systems in the Douglas Daly region. The role is based in Darwin with travel to regional research sites and focuses on applied work in soil science, agronomy, cropping systems, soil fertility, soil health, integrated soil fertility management, soil-water-plant interactions, water-use efficiency, salinity, pH management, and climate resilience.

The position involves evaluating agronomic conditions, designing and implementing soil amendment and restoration solutions, developing tailored soil management systems, assessing soil-water-plant interactions, building partnerships with growers and research partners, and delivering extension activities, field trials, scientific communication, and technical reports. There is also a contribution to establishing a soil laboratory in the region.

This is a full-time, fixed-term 6-month professional role with a salary of AUD 92,910–110,781. The post is not a PhD, postdoc, or masters opening; it is a job vacancy for experienced professionals. Applicants should have a degree in Soil Science, Agronomy, or equivalent, plus experience in agriculture/cropping production systems and the ability to work with industry and manage research, development, and extension projects. Postgraduate qualifications are desirable.
