About this position
This 12-month fixed-term postdoctoral position is based in the Electronic and Interface Materials Laboratory at the Department of Materials, University of Oxford, under the supervision of Professor Ruy Sebastian Bonilla. The successful candidate will join the TACOS-PV (Temperature Analysis and Characterisation in Operational Solar Photovoltaics) project, which focuses on understanding the temperature-dependent behaviour of advanced solar materials and devices.
The role involves experimental characterisation, data analysis, and modelling, with collaborative opportunities alongside the University of Southampton and the National Physical Laboratory (NPL). The research aims to investigate how temperature affects the performance of modern solar technologies, including silicon, perovskite, and tandem photovoltaic devices. Responsibilities include conducting advanced temperature-dependent characterisation, developing physical models of charge transport and recombination, and integrating empirical data into system-level simulations.
The project is part of a UK-wide effort to improve the accuracy of photovoltaic energy yield prediction. Applicants should have a PhD/DPhil (or be close to completion) in Materials Science, Physics, Chemistry, Engineering, or a related field, with experience in electrical or optical characterisation of semiconductors or photovoltaic devices.
Strong analytical, organisational, and communication skills, a record of publication, and the ability to work both independently and collaboratively are essential. Applications must be submitted online via the Oxford University E-Recruitment system by 12 noon on 24 November 2025, including a CV and Supporting Statement.
Interviews are scheduled for 8 December 2025 via MS Teams.
