Tenure-Track Assistant Professor in Psychology (Developmental Psychology / Scholarship of Teaching and Learning) Athabasca University in United States

Athabasca University is recruiting two tenure-track Assistant Professors in Psychology in the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences / Centre for Social Sciences. These are full-time academic positions based in Alberta, Canada, with a start date of October 1, 2026.

The two priority research areas are Developmental Psychology and Scholarship of Teaching and Learning (SoTL) in Psychology. The SoTL role emphasizes adult learning, pedagogy, curriculum, assessment, and the development/testing of tools and strategies to support large courses. The university also notes interest in candidates with strong quantitative research profiles and expertise that complements existing strengths in social, educational, cognitive, biological, and health psychology.

Successful candidates will be expected to develop new courses, revise and coordinate existing courses, maintain a robust research program in a virtual environment, and provide research training opportunities for Psychology students. Teaching excellence is required, and graduate supervision experience is an asset. Faculty service is also part of the role, including committee work and broader community service.

Eligibility highlights include a PhD in Psychology (incomplete doctorates will not be reviewed), evidence of teaching effectiveness, and a research profile aligned with the program’s needs. Preferred assets include experience in distance learning and familiarity with digital teaching technologies.

Funding is not a scholarship or studentship; this is a salaried tenure-track academic appointment with an annual wage range of CAD 77,962 to 109,248.
