About this position
The Department of Living Matter Physics (LMP) at the Max Planck Institute for Dynamics and Self-Organization (MPI-DS) in Göttingen, Germany, is seeking several postdoctoral researchers to join its vibrant, international, and interdisciplinary team. The LMP department, led by Prof. Dr. Ramin Golestanian (director), along with group leaders Philip Bittihn and Suropriya Saha, focuses on theoretical and computational research to understand the dynamics of living systems from a physical perspective.
The research will center on nonequilibrium statistical physics and active matter, exploring fundamental questions about the physical principles underlying living systems. MPI-DS offers an exceptional research environment, with about 300 staff members engaged in both theoretical and experimental science. The postdoctoral positions are full-time appointments for two years, with flexible starting dates, and are compensated according to the German public service salary scale (E13 TVöD-Bund) with full social benefits.
The institute is committed to diversity and encourages applications from underrepresented groups, including women and individuals with disabilities. Applicants should have a PhD or equivalent in theoretical physics, applied mathematics, or a related field, with prior experience in nonequilibrium statistical physics and a strong interest in active matter.
Good communication skills, the ability to work in an international and interdisciplinary team, and proficiency in English are required; German is helpful but not necessary. To apply, candidates should submit their CV, publication list, a statement of research interest, and contact details for two referees via the online application portal. The application should include a description of proposed research as well as past and current research interests and motivation for joining the department.
Applications will be reviewed after the deadline of January 10, 2026, and the process will continue until all positions are filled. For further information, applicants may contact Prof.
Dr. Ramin Golestanian at [email protected].
