About this position
TU Wien, Austria's largest institution for research and higher education in technology and natural sciences, is offering a University Assistant (Prae-Doc) position at the Institute of Building Construction and Industrial Construction. The role is part-time (30 hours/week) and limited to four years, starting May 2026. The position is embedded within the Research Unit Building Construction and Building Adaptation, contributing to the Center for Digital Fabrication for Structures and Systems at the TU Wien Science Center.
The successful candidate will conduct research in collaborative robotics, digital design, manufacturing technologies, and system design. Responsibilities include participating in research and project activities, teaching and student support, assisting in the supervision of diploma theses, writing scientific publications, and engaging in scientific events. Organisational and administrative support is also expected.
Applicants must hold a completed master's or diploma degree in civil engineering or architecture, with special knowledge in building construction. A strong interest in digital design, manufacturing techniques such as additive manufacturing, and systemic processes is required; prior experience is advantageous. Skills in parametric modelling and programming (with advanced experience in software systems like Rhino/Grasshopper, Python, Robotstudio, Compas_RRC) are preferred. Candidates should demonstrate the ability to work across disciplines, possess excellent German and English communication and writing skills, advanced problem-solving abilities, scientific curiosity, and be effective team players.
The position offers a wide variety of tasks in a collegial team, access to a highly visible and networked international research group, and opportunities in a thriving research area. Hybrid working style with home office options and attractive social benefits are available. Entry level salary is determined by pay grade B1 of the Austrian collective agreement for university staff, with a minimum of EUR 2,832.10/month gross, paid 14 times/year for 30 hours/week. Relevant working experience may increase the monthly income. If external funding is obtained, the employment level may be increased to 40 hours/week.
TU Wien is committed to increasing the proportion of women in leadership positions and encourages female applicants. Preference will be given to women when equally qualified, unless reasons specific to a male applicant tilt the balance. People with special needs are equally encouraged to apply. For questions, contact the confidant for disabled persons at the university or TU Wien directly.
Applications must be submitted by May 7th, 2026. For further information and to apply, use the provided application link.
