About this position

Technische Universität Wien (TU Wien) is advertising a University Assistant (Pre-Doc) position in Peptide & Protein Chemistry within the Research Group for Molecular Chemistry and Chemical Biology at the Institute of Applied Synthetic Chemistry.

The role is centered on organic and biological chemistry, with research tasks including synthesis, purification, and analysis of synthetic peptides, protein expression, and structural, biochemical, and biophysical characterization of peptides and proteins. The successful candidate will also contribute to scientific publications, a dissertation, dissemination activities, student supervision, teaching, laboratory courses, examinations, and project/lab administration.

This is a pre-doc PhD-level opening (university assistant prae-doc), offered for 30 hours/week and limited to 4 years, with an expected start in September 2026. The position is based in Vienna, Austria, at TU Wien, a major research university in technology and natural sciences.

Eligibility highlights: applicants should hold a master’s or diploma degree in chemistry, chemical biology, or a closely related field; have strong laboratory and data analysis skills; and show interest in protein chemistry. Strong communication and writing skills in German and English (minimum B2) are required.

Funding/salary: this is a paid university employment position. The entry salary is based on Austrian collective agreement pay grade B1, currently EUR 2,832.10 gross/month for 30 hours/week, paid 14 times per year; prior relevant experience may increase the salary.
