About this position
The International Max Planck Research School for Systems and Process Engineering for a Sustainable Chemical Production (IMPRS SysProSus) is a collaborative graduate school between the Max Planck Institute for Dynamics of Complex Technical Systems and Otto von Guericke University Magdeburg. The program offers structured PhD training in process and systems engineering, applied mathematics, chemistry, computer science, and systems biology, focusing on innovative approaches to replace fossil raw materials in chemical production with renewable carbon sources such as biogenic residues and plastic waste. Doctoral candidates benefit from a multidisciplinary research environment, excellent supervision, and opportunities to conduct research at international partner institutions. The curriculum is designed to develop both scientific and soft skills, and the working language is English. Successful candidates receive a working contract with salary and benefits according to German public sector agreements (TVL/TVöD E13, 75%). Applicants must have a Master’s degree in a relevant field and demonstrate expertise in their chosen research area. The program values diversity and encourages applications from underrepresented groups. The next application period is January 13, 2025 to February 16, 2025. Applications are submitted online and require a CV, motivation letter, transcripts, two reference letters, and proof of English proficiency. For more information, prospective students can consult the program’s FAQ and read about current doctoral researchers’ experiences.
