About this position
Chatham University is hiring a full-time, one-year Visiting Assistant Professor of Chemistry for the 2026–2027 academic year.
The role is centered on undergraduate chemistry instruction, with primary teaching responsibilities in organic chemistry laboratory courses and possible additional teaching in general chemistry or organic chemistry lecture, depending on departmental need and candidate expertise.
The successful candidate will support instructional continuity across the chemistry curriculum, including multiple sections of Organic Chemistry Laboratory, preparation and assessment of laboratory and/or lecture instruction, coordination with chemistry faculty across sections, regular office hours, and support for student learning.
Required qualifications: a Master’s degree in Chemistry, Organic Chemistry, Biochemistry, or a closely related field; demonstrated ability to teach undergraduate chemistry laboratories; commitment to effective, inclusive undergraduate teaching; and strong organizational and communication skills.
Preferred qualifications: a Ph.D. in Chemistry or a closely related field, experience teaching Organic Chemistry lecture and/or laboratory courses, experience teaching General Chemistry, experience working with undergraduate students in a liberal arts or small college environment, and familiarity with laboratory safety and chemical hygiene expectations.
