PhD Position in Biomedical Sciences: Lipid Nanoparticle Profiling (Regenerative Medicine, Molecular Biology, Nanomedicine)
A new PhD position is available in the GFF-funded project “LNP Profiling,” focusing on lipid nanoparticles (LNPs) which are crucial for mRNA vaccines and gene therapies. The project aims to develop an innovative analytical platform integrating cell-based assays, 3D tissue models, multi-omics, and advanced imaging to study the safety and efficacy of LNPs. The position is jointly hosted by Fachhochschule Wiener Neustadt (FHWN Campus Tulln) and the Universität für Weiterbildung Krems (UWK), in collaboration with RNAnalytics, and is embedded in the PhD Programme Regenerative Medicine at UWK.
Research tasks include developing cell-based assays to assess LNP cytotoxicity, immunogenicity, and transfection efficiency; conducting RNA-Seq, RT-qPCR, and LC-MS/MS analyses; performing confocal microscopy, flow cytometry, and data analyses; writing scientific publications and presenting results at conferences; and collaborating with academic and industrial partners. The project offers a diverse and exciting research environment at the interface of molecular biology and nanomedicine, with access to state-of-the-art infrastructure and core facilities.
Applicants should have a master’s degree in Molecular Biology, Tissue Engineering, Biotechnology, Biochemistry, or a related field, with experience in cell culture and molecular methods. Strong interest in RNA therapeutics, nanomedicine, and translational research is expected, along with willingness to learn new techniques and data-science analyses. Excellent English communication skills (minimum C1) are required, and German language skills are desirable. The position is for 30 hours per week, with a salary of €2,786.10 gross per month, for a duration of 3 years. Social benefits and collaboration with two universities and an industrial partner are included.
To apply, submit your application by January 31st, 2026 via e-mail to [email protected], including a letter of motivation, CV, degrees and transcripts, documentation of scientific experience, and two letters of recommendation. Applications after the deadline will be considered as long as the position is vacant.
