AI-for-Science Independent Postdoctoral Fellowship in Biology, Neuroscience, and Related Fields

The FutureHouse 2026 AI-for-Science Independent Postdoctoral Fellowship offers an exceptional opportunity for recent PhD graduates to pursue independent research at the intersection of artificial intelligence and science. This program is designed for early career scientists with a strong background in biology, neuroscience, bioengineering, biochemistry, or related fields, as well as those with expertise in AI or machine learning as applied to scientific discovery. Fellows will receive a generous $125,000 annual stipend plus benefits, dedicated software engineering support, advanced computational resources, access to wet lab facilities, and training in building and deploying AI agents. The fellowship also provides mentorship within a vibrant AI-for-Science research community and access to the Edison Scientific AI platform. Applicants are expected to propose bold, curiosity-driven research projects that leverage AI to advance large-scale biological analyses, develop new AI tools for genomics or proteomics, or accelerate high-impact scientific discovery. The 2026 program includes a special partnership with The Kavli Foundation, supporting a neuroscience-focused Fellow to pursue transformative cross-disciplinary work in collaboration with a member of a Kavli Institute. Fellows are encouraged, but not required, to work with academic co-advisors from a list of leading scientists at top institutions worldwide. Eligibility requirements include completion of a Ph.D. by September 2026, strong quantitative skills, and the ability to work onsite in San Francisco for at least the first month of the fellowship. International applicants are welcome, and US visa support is available. The fellowship begins in September 2026 and runs for one year, with a possible one-year extension. Fellows are employed and paid by FutureHouse, and no pre-existing institutional agreement is required for co-advisors. Intellectual property is shared according to a collaboration agreement negotiated after selection. To apply, candidates must complete the application form, submit a CV with a full publication list, a 2-page research proposal detailing the scientific problem and the role of AI, and two letters of recommendation. The application deadline is February 13, 2026. For more information and to apply, visit the FutureHouse fellowship website.
