Engagement Officer Position in Biodiversity Conservation and Environmental Science at McGill University

McGill University is seeking an Engagement Officer to support the development of the Canadian Biodiversity Observation Network (CAN BON), a national initiative aimed at mainstreaming biodiversity data and knowledge across Canada's economy. The position is based in the Department of Biology and offers the opportunity to work closely with Professor Andrew Gonzalez, a leader in biodiversity conservation, and a steering group of CAN BON. The successful candidate will join a vibrant academic community, including GEO BON and the Quebec Centre for Biodiversity Science, and will benefit from McGill's extensive resources and networks. CAN BON is designed to connect universities, government agencies, Indigenous organizations, and community groups to create a unified approach to monitoring and responding to biodiversity change and the loss of Canada's natural capital. The Engagement Officer will develop and implement engagement initiatives, create and communicate content to raise awareness, represent CAN BON at conferences and meetings, foster relationships with key stakeholders, and collaborate with partners such as WCS Canada on outreach activities related to Key Biodiversity Areas. Applicants should hold a master’s degree in Environmental Science, Conservation, or a related discipline; a PhD is an asset but not required. Experience in project management, stakeholder engagement, or similar roles, especially in the environmental or academic sector, is essential. Experience working with diverse partners, including academic, government, and non-profit organizations, is required, and experience with Indigenous partners is a strong asset. The position offers a competitive salary range of $64,770.00 to $97,150.00 per year for full-time work (33.75 hours per week). The application deadline is February 4, 2026.
