PhD Positions in Li-metal Batteries, Semi-solid Electrolytes, and Cathode Interface Engineering

AGH University of Krakow is offering two PhD positions in the area of next-generation Li-metal batteries , within the First Team FENG project led by Andrzej Kulka at Wydział Energetyki i Paliw AGH. The project focuses on a new generation of Li-metal batteries with semi-solid / quasi-solid electrolytes and self-healing, bio-inspired cathode/electrolyte interfaces . The two research topics are: (1) development and optimization of quasi-solid/semi-solid electrolytes for Li-metal batteries, and (2) optimization of cathode materials and their interfaces for Li-metal batteries operating with semi-solid electrolytes. The work combines materials chemistry , electrochemistry , interface engineering , battery materials development, and applied research in collaboration with an industrial partner. This is a strong fit for candidates with backgrounds in energy engineering , chemistry , materials science , physics , or chemical technology . Experience in batteries, electrochemistry, organic/polymer chemistry, materials synthesis, or laboratory work is considered an advantage. The planned start is October 2026 . Funding is explicitly stated and includes at least PLN 3,570.50 per month before the mid-term evaluation (during the first two years of doctoral studies), PLN 5,550.50 per month after the mid-term evaluation, plus an additional project scholarship of PLN 3,500 per month. Successful candidates must apply for and be admitted to the Doctoral School at Wydział Energetyki i Paliw AGH at AGH University of Krakow. Interested applicants are encouraged to contact Andrzej Kulka directly for more information.
