A fully funded PhD position is available at Wetsus, European Centre of Excellence for Sustainable Water Technology, in collaboration with Wageningen University & Research. The project focuses on developing a sustainable proton-coupled electron transfer (PCET) based technology for efficient CO2 capture. The research aims to build an electrochemical system that enables scalable, energy-efficient, and stable carbon capture solutions, contributing to climate change mitigation and the goal of carbon neutrality by 2050. Supervisors for this project are Prof. dr. ir. Bert Hamelers and Prof. dr. ir. Annemiek Ter Heijne from Wageningen University & Research, and Dr. Philipp Kuntke from Wetsus. The successful candidate will investigate PCET processes for CO2 capture, develop and optimize electrochemical system designs, work on electrode materials, separators, and absorption/desorption strategies, and apply modeling and characterization tools for process development. Applicants should hold a relevant MSc degree and have a strong interest or experience in electrochemistry, carbon capture, and process modeling.
