two fully funded PhD positions
in
AI, NLP, agentic systems, digital lexicography, and digital humanities
at the
University of Ljubljana
, Slovenia, through the
AI4DH
centre and the
ELEXAI
project.
The positions are designed for candidates with a strong technical background who are interested in interdisciplinary research bridging
computer science
,
artificial intelligence
,
natural language processing
, and the humanities. Research topics include development of
large language models
and
agentic interfaces
for multilingual knowledge management, semantic data, evaluation datasets from lexical sources, digital lexicography, analysis of historical newspapers, data-driven folkloristics, and interpretation of generative AI in humanities contexts.
The work will be based at the
Faculty of Computer and Information Science
and involves collaboration with researchers from the Faculty of Arts and the Faculty of Social Sciences. The centre also supports AI literacy for SSH scholars and offers opportunities to contribute to teaching, training, and interdisciplinary support work.
Funding:
the call states that the PhD study is fully funded for up to 3 years, with a starting gross monthly salary of
EUR 3,549
(about
EUR 2,200 net
), plus daily food allowance, holiday allowance, travel reimbursement, and performance bonuses. The tuition fee for the PhD programme is covered.
Eligibility:
applicants should have a Master’s degree or equivalent in computer science/informatics, another technically strong field, or social sciences with technical background. The call also asks for programming, data analysis, statistics/data science, teamwork, communication, organisational skills, interdisciplinary interest in digital humanities, and fluency in English.
