Research Professional in Science of Science, Applied AI, and Large-Scale Data Systems at Chicago Booth

Chicago Booth’s Center for Applied AI is hiring a full-time Research Professional to work with Bradford Levy and Anna Costello on a project at the intersection of science of science , applied AI , and large-scale data systems . The role focuses on building and maintaining infrastructure to process millions of academic papers and study how scientific knowledge is created at scale. The work includes distributed web crawling on AWS , real-time ML and LLM pipelines , large-scale data wrangling , monitoring with Grafana , and solving ambiguous technical problems with novel solutions. This opportunity is especially suited to candidates with strong interests in computer science , information technology , machine learning , and data-intensive research. The poster says they are particularly interested in students or recent graduates who might otherwise pursue a CS PhD , an ML research role , or another technically demanding data/AI position, but who want to spend 1–2 years doing research first. Prior research professionals in this group have gone on to top PhD programs in CS or applied economics, including Chicago, Cornell, Harvard, MIT, and Stanford. The start date could be as early as July, and applications are being reviewed on a rolling basis . To apply, read the full job advertisement and follow the instructions provided there. This is a research job rather than a PhD, postdoc, or master’s opening.
