PhD Position in Media and Communication Studies at Lund University

The department is part of the Faculty of Social Sciences, which is highly ranked internationally, and offers a dynamic, interdisciplinary environment for research and education in media and communication studies, strategic communication, and journalism, with a particular emphasis on digital communication technologies. The doctoral position involves conducting independent research and coursework within the doctoral programme, with opportunities to participate in teaching and departmental duties (up to 20%). The department collaborates closely with the media and communication industry, civil society, and public authorities, providing students with both theoretical knowledge and practical skills. Research topics include communication practices in organizations, politics, society, and culture, as well as the analysis of digital media technologies. Applicants must hold a second-cycle degree (Master’s or equivalent) with at least 240 ECTS credits, including at least 60 credits at the second-cycle level, and at least 30 credits at the second-cycle level in media and communication studies or equivalent. Independent scholarly work of at least 15 ECTS credits at the second-cycle level is required. Proficiency in English is essential. Selection is based on academic qualifications, the quality of the master’s thesis, and the proposed doctoral dissertation idea. The ability to work independently and contribute to a positive research environment is also considered. The position is a fixed-term, full-time employment for four years (up to five years with departmental duties), with a monthly salary.
