Postdoc in Law on Maternal Rights, Welfare and Labor Law at Roskilde University

Roskilde University is advertising a 2.5-year postdoctoral position in law within the ERC Starting Grant project MaMas: Mapping and Conceptualizing Maternal Rights during Pregnancy, Birth, and the Postpartum Period , led by Celine Brassart Olsen (Associate Professor of Law and PI). The project develops a legal framework for maternal rights grounded in women’s embodied experiences and combines law and anthropology in an interdisciplinary research environment. The postdoc will focus on women’s rights during the transition to motherhood , especially welfare law and labor law in Denmark, England, and/or France, with attention to international and European law. The role involves comparative legal analysis, mapping rights in the workplace and during parental leave, and collaborating with the PI and an anthropology postdoc to support interview design and qualitative analysis. The project is linked to the research group Crossroads of Care and Social Reproduction (CARE) at Roskilde University. Research interests that fit especially well include health, welfare and labor law, gender justice and equality, comparative law, critical legal theory, and feminist legal theory. The ideal candidate has a PhD in law, experience with public law or Scandinavian legal systems, strong academic writing skills, and the ability to work both independently and in a team. English and Danish (or another Scandinavian language) are required; French is an advantage. Funding and terms: the position is funded through the ERC project and is a research-only appointment with a duration of 2.5 years. The start date is 1 October 2026 (or as soon as possible thereafter). Application deadline: 12 April 2026 . Apply via the Roskilde University job portal and submit the required documents in English, including a cover letter, CV, education documentation, publication list, and up to five scientific works.
