PhD Position in Evolutionary and Behavioural Ecology, Biology – University of Gothenburg
The University of Gothenburg is offering a fully funded PhD position in Biology, focusing on evolutionary and behavioural ecology, specifically the evolution of female ornamentation and life-history trade-offs in pipefish. The research will be conducted at the Department of Biological and Environmental Sciences (BioEnv), with activities spanning both the Gothenburg campus and the Kristineberg Marine Research Station. The project integrates mathematical modelling and experimental biology, including behavioural experiments, data analysis, scientific writing, and microscopy. Fieldwork at marine research stations is a key component, providing hands-on experience in marine environments.
Applicants should hold a Master’s degree in Biology or a closely related field, with at least 15 ECTS in statistics and advanced coursework in evolutionary or behavioural ecology. Strong English communication skills are essential due to the international research environment. Desirable skills include experience in behavioural ecology, sexual selection, experimental design, fieldwork, R programming, microscopy, and marine biology. Additional beneficial qualifications are experience with fish physiology, laboratory animal science, and boat operation.
The position is fully funded, offering 100% employment, paid holidays, pension benefits, and teaching opportunities up to 20% of the appointment.
