Postdoctoral and PhD Positions in Metabolic and Nutritional Regulation of Immunity

The Institute of Clinical Chemistry and Clinical Pharmacology at the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Bonn is offering Postdoctoral and PhD positions in the area of metabolic and nutritional regulation of immunity. The research focuses on how dietary and metabolic factors, including fasting, influence immune responses and the biology and metabolism of tissue-resident immune cells such as T cells and innate lymphoid cells (ILC) in health and disease. The project builds on recent findings from the lab and aims to gain knowledge that could be applied to better understand and treat diseases such as obesity, chronic inflammation, and infections. The research leverages collaborations with clinicians and offers opportunities for external funding and independent research program development during postdoctoral training. The ideal candidate should have a PhD or be a graduate student expecting to receive the degree within six months, with a background in immunology, tissue biology, or cellular metabolism. Experience with animal models, cell isolations from tissues (lung, intestine), human tissue samples, multi-parameter flow cytometry, molecular biology, and fluorescence imaging is preferred. The lab offers an interdisciplinary and supportive research environment committed to training and career development. The position is fully funded according to the German salary scale TV-L (EG 13, 100%) and includes attractive benefits such as flexible working time models, company pension scheme, interest-free loan for e-bike, subsidized further education and training, structured induction, health promotion offers, free membership in UKBfit, and corporate benefits. The initial contract is for three years with the possibility of extension. The University of Bonn is committed to diversity and equal opportunity and encourages applications from women and individuals with certified serious disabilities. Applications should include a cover letter, CV, and names and addresses of three referees and be sent by email to Prof. Christoph Wilhelm ([email protected]) by April 15, 2026.
