PhD in Polymer Chemistry and Plastic Upcycling at University of Bordeaux

PhD opportunity in Polymer Chemistry and Plastic Upcycling at the University of Bordeaux, France. This doctoral project is hosted by the Laboratoire de Chimie des Polymères Organiques (LCPO) and the Institut des Sciences Moléculaires (ISM) in Bordeaux, within the ANR “CYCLO-PE” project. The research focuses on post-modification of polyethylene to enable chemical degradation or chemical upcycling. The project sits at the interface of polymer science , chemistry , and materials science . Key topics include C–H bond activation in polyethylene , chemical post-modification under mild conditions , introduction of functional groups and degradable motifs , and development of sustainable plastic upcycling strategies . The work aims to create new ways to add value to polyethylene rather than simply reverting it to monomer. Candidate requirements include a Master’s degree in Chemistry, Polymer Science, or a related field . A background in organic synthesis , catalysis , or macromolecular chemistry is preferred. The ideal applicant should be motivated, curious, interdisciplinary, and strongly interested in sustainable materials and recycling technologies . Supervision is by Prof. D. Taton and Prof. Y. Landais , with the project coordinated by D. Taton. The position is linked to the ANR CYCLO-PE framework and is based in Bordeaux, France. Applications should be submitted through the official CNRS posting page using the provided link.
