Post-Doctoral Researcher in Medical Education for Climate Resilient Healthcare Systems

The Medical Education Unit at the School of Medicine, University College Cork, is seeking a Post-Doctoral Researcher to join a Health Research Board funded project focused on educating healthcare professionals for climate resilient and sustainable healthcare systems. This interdisciplinary initiative collaborates with partners across the health and higher education sectors in Ireland, aiming to equip healthcare professionals with the knowledge and skills to address the planetary crisis in their daily practice. The research programme encompasses a variety of methodologies, including literature reviews, large-scale surveys, interviews and focus groups, co-design, consensus building, implementation, and evaluation studies. The successful candidate will join a team of six full-time research staff and a part-time Research Administrator, working under the supervision of Professor Deirdre Bennett. The project offers opportunities for professional development through the UCC Post-Doc Development Hub and provides training in specific research methodologies as required. This position is suitable for newly qualified PhDs in fields such as health professions’ education, sustainability education, health services research, public health, psychology, and sociology. The role requires on-site presence at UCC, with the university’s Remote Working Policy applicable. The postdoctoral researcher will be expected to conduct a specified programme of research, engage in training and professional development, gain experience in grant writing, disseminate research results, acquire generic and transferable skills, and participate in the wider scholarly activities of the research group. Key responsibilities include supervising research assistants and postgraduate students, supporting administrative work, assisting in financial management of the research project, and contributing to research grant proposals. Essential criteria for applicants include a PhD qualification in a relevant area, appropriate research experience and technical competence, strong communication and organisational skills, and the ability to work effectively within a team. English language proficiency is required, and Garda vetting or international police clearance may be part of the selection process. The position is funded by the Health Research Board, with starting pay reflecting progression within Irish higher education institutions. The contract is full-time and temporary, commencing on 3 June 2026. The application deadline is 21 May 2026. Interested candidates should apply online via the University College Cork website, ensuring they meet all essential criteria and provide the necessary documentation.
