Ghent University is seeking a Postdoctoral Assistant in Legal History and Law for its Faculty of Law and Criminology, Department RE21 - Interdisciplinary Study of Law, Private Law and Business Law. The position is a full-time, temporary appointment for two years, with the possibility of a one-year extension following a favorable evaluation. The successful candidate will dedicate at least 70% of their assignment to academic research, primarily in the field of comparative legal history. Responsibilities include contributing to teaching modules such as History of Private Law and History of Social and Economic Law (instruction in Dutch), assisting with teaching activities at both Bachelor’s and Master’s levels, and counseling Master’s and doctoral students. The role also involves submitting external funding applications for postdoctoral research. Applicants must possess a master’s degree in law and a doctoral degree (PhD) in law, with both degrees required at the start of the appointment. Additional diplomas are recommended, and candidates with non-EU degrees must provide a certificate of equivalence (NARIC). Candidates should have a strong research background in comparative legal history, ideally with knowledge of recent legal history, and a record of publications in peer-reviewed journals. Interest in student coaching and teaching is essential.
