Graduate (MSc/PhD) Positions in Glycobiology, Mass Spectrometry, and Structural Biology at University of Waterloo
The Bui Lab at the University of Waterloo is seeking motivated graduate students (MSc or PhD) to join an interdisciplinary research team. The group specializes in native mass spectrometry, glycoproteomics, and structural biology to investigate how glycan-mediated interactions influence viral infection, immune activation, and cancer progression. The research integrates bioanalytical chemistry, glycobiology, cancer biology, and biophysical tools to uncover molecular mechanisms underlying disease and to inspire innovative therapeutic strategies in infection, immunity, and oncology.
Applicants can join through either the Chemistry or Biology graduate programs at the University of Waterloo. The lab's long-term vision is to advance the understanding of how glycans guide receptor recognition and immune signaling, using cutting-edge analytical and structural biology techniques. The group is highly interdisciplinary, combining expertise in analytical chemistry, structural biology, and disease biology.
Eligibility:
MSc applicants must have an Honours Bachelor’s degree with at least a 75% average in the final two years. PhD applicants require a Master’s degree with at least a 75% standing. English-language proficiency requirements apply where relevant. Applicants should prepare a CV, transcripts, a brief statement of interest, and three academic references. For detailed program requirements, refer to the Chemistry and Biology program pages linked in the announcement.
Research Areas:
Glycobiology, native mass spectrometry, glycoproteomics, structural biology, cancer biology, immune activation, viral infection, and analytical chemistry.
Application Process:
Interested candidates should email their application materials to Dr. Duong Bui ([email protected]) and prepare three academic references. The deadline for Fall 2026 admission is January 15, 2026, with a departmental application deadline of February 1, 2026.
Funding:
The post does not specify funding details. Applicants are encouraged to consult the Chemistry and Biology program pages for information on available funding and scholarships.
