Post-doctoral Assistant in Movement and Sports Sciences
Ghent University, a leading institution in Belgium, is offering a post-doctoral assistant position in the Department of Movement and Sports Sciences. The role is situated within the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences and focuses on research themes such as muscle biology, exercise physiology, metabolism, nutrition, and molecular biology. As a post-doctoral assistant, you will dedicate at least 70% of your time to academic research, contributing to ongoing projects aligned with the research groups of Prof. Wim Derave and Prof. Eline Lievens. You will also assist in teaching activities at the Bachelor’s and Master’s levels, counsel Master’s students in their exercises, research internships, and dissertations, and provide guidance to doctoral students. The position includes responsibilities in both internal and external departmental services, fostering a collaborative and supportive academic environment.
Applicants must hold a doctoral degree in life sciences (such as physiology, health sciences, or molecular biology) by the start of the appointment. For diplomas awarded outside the European Union, a certificate of equivalence (NARIC) is required. Candidates should have demonstrated research experience in muscle biology, exercise physiology, metabolism, nutrition, or molecular biology, and have distinguished themselves as promising researchers. A strong interest in coaching students at various academic levels and a record of relevant scientific publications in peer-reviewed journals are highly valued. For foreign diplomas not in Dutch, French, German, or English, a translation must be provided.
The appointment is temporary for three years, with the possibility of extension for another three years upon favorable evaluation. Remuneration is determined according to salary scale AAP5, and Ghent University offers a comprehensive benefits package, including training and education opportunities, 36 days of paid leave, bicycle commuting reimbursement, ecocheques, and more. The earliest start date is 1 September 2026.
