PhD in Economics: Tourism and Biodiversity in Switzerland

The Tourism Research Unit at the Department of Economics, University of Bern, Switzerland is inviting applications for a PhD position in Economics in the project “Economic Analysis of Tourism and Biodiversity in Switzerland” . This is an empirical research opportunity at the intersection of tourism economics , biodiversity , environmental economics , sustainability , and regional economic development . The project uses spatial, tourism, biodiversity, infrastructure, accessibility, and land-use data to study the relationship between tourism and biodiversity in Switzerland. The successful candidate will also contribute to case-study analyses of tourism management measures in Swiss destinations. The position is a 4-year PhD at 75% employment with remuneration according to University of Bern regulations. The post includes access to academic networks, conferences, doctoral courses, and interdisciplinary exchange, and it is supervised in collaboration with researchers in tourism and environmental economics. Applicants should have a very good master’s degree in economics or a closely related field, strong quantitative and econometric skills, and experience with R , Stata , or Python . Experience with GIS or spatial data is a strong asset. Excellent English is required; German is desirable. The role suits candidates who can work independently and in an interdisciplinary team.
