Robotics
The Robot Learning & Control Lab (REAL Lab) at New York University Abu Dhabi is recruiting a Post-Doctoral Associate to advance research in robot intelligence, machine learning, and AI-driven manipulation. The successful candidate will join a world-class research institution and contribute to projects at the intersection of robot learning, control, and AI for physical systems. Research topics include developing algorithms for robot autonomy, dexterous manipulation, semantic navigation and mapping, and safe, certified control for human-robot collaboration. The lab focuses on real-world robotic systems, including mobile manipulators and tasks involving complex object handling and uncertain environments. Applicants should hold a PhD in Robotics, Control Engineering, Machine Learning, AI, Mechanical or Electrical Engineering, or a closely related field. Desired qualifications include expertise in robot manipulation learning and control, differential geometry, safe control methods (Lyapunov stability, barrier functions), and hands-on experience with robotic manipulators (preferably Franka Emika R3 robots). Candidates should have a strong publication record in top-tier venues and proficiency in Python, C++, ROS, and machine learning frameworks such as PyTorch or TensorFlow. The position offers very competitive employment terms, including housing and educational subsidies for children, with an initial 2-year contract and the possibility of renewal. NYU Abu Dhabi provides a collaborative, interdisciplinary research environment and is part of NYU’s global network. Applications are accepted immediately and considered until the position is filled. For questions, contact Prof. Fares Abu-Dakka. To apply, submit a cover letter, CV with publication list, research statement, transcript, and two reference letters.
