Felix Huber at the University of Gdańsk is recruiting for two research opportunities in quantum information and mathematical optimization : a PhD position (4 years) and a postdoctoral position (2 years). The project is titled Mathematical Optimization in Quantum Information and is funded by the National Science Centre in Poland . Research topics include approximation algorithms in QIT (for example ground state energies), symmetry and size reduction of polynomial optimization problems, characterization of quantum codes and quantum capacities, quantum correlations, entanglement, nonlocality, and machine learning for optimization problems. PhD requirements: an MSc in Physics, Mathematics, or Computer Science; background or experience in quantum information and computation, mathematical programming, combinatorial optimization, or coding theory; proficiency in English; programming experience in Python, Julia, Sage, GAP, or semidefinite programming is a plus. The PhD candidate will join the doctoral school at U. Gdańsk. Postdoc requirements: a PhD in Physics, Mathematics, or Computer Science with a thesis in one of the same areas; proactive attitude; good cooperation skills; methodological working style; English proficiency; programming experience is a plus. Funding: the PhD position offers about 5000 PLN net stipend plus 3466 PLN gross salary after successful midterm evaluation, along with travel funding, Polish social security coverage, and health insurance.
