PhD Position: Acoustic Digital Twin and Sonic Architecture of the Long Room, Trinity College Dublin

This project aims to pioneer new approaches to the preservation and enhancement of one of Europe’s most iconic cultural heritage landmarks. The research will explore the acoustic experiences and sonic architecture of the Long Room, employing state-of-the-art robot-aided acoustic measurements and advanced computational modeling techniques. The goal is to develop a versatile Acoustic Digital Twin, integrating these findings with existing 3D image data to provide a comprehensive understanding of the space. The project is based in the School of Computer Science and Statistics, under the supervision of Assistant Professor Gareth W. Young (Graphics and Vision). The research will combine expertise in computer science, statistics, architecture, and acoustics, offering students the chance to work at the intersection of technology and cultural heritage.
