PhD opportunity in ocular surface biology at the Eye Center, Medical Center – University of Freiburg . The project is part of a DFG-funded research program and starts in July 2026 . The research focuses on limbal stem cells , conjunctival epithelial stem cells , and their transdifferentiation into corneal epithelial-like cells using limbal niche molecular cues. The work aims to evaluate these cells in a porcine limbal stem cell deficiency (LSCD) model and contribute to the development of novel regenerative therapies for ocular surface diseases. Planned work includes cell culture , molecular biology , in vitro functional assays , support for in vivo studies , data analysis, and scientific writing/publication support. Eligibility highlights: applicants should have an M.Sc. in Biology or a related field , a strong interest in stem cells , ocular surface biology , or regenerative medicine , and good English skills.
