PhD and Postdoc Positions in Industrial AI, Data Science, and Optimization at King Fahd University of Petroleum & Minerals
The Smart Energy and Resilience Analytics Lab (SERA Lab) at King Fahd University of Petroleum & Minerals (KFUPM) is seeking highly motivated PhD students and postdoctoral researchers to join the Industrial & Systems Engineering Department. The lab, led by Assistant Professor Hasan Masrur, focuses on advancing data-driven solutions to enhance the resilience and reliability of energy and networked systems. Research areas include Industrial AI, data science, optimization, machine learning, and smart energy systems.
PhD candidates will contribute to cutting-edge research at the intersection of industrial engineering, artificial intelligence, and optimization. The lab addresses critical challenges such as strengthening the resilience of networked systems against disruptions (e.g., cyberattacks, natural disasters), developing predictive and adaptive frameworks for interconnected energy systems (including renewable energy and electric vehicle integration), and optimizing smart energy systems through advanced analytics and modeling.
Applicants should possess a strong mathematical foundation and excellent programming skills. Prior research experience and publications are highly valued. Direct PhD entry is available for exceptional BS graduates. The minimum requirement is a GPA of 3.00/4.00 or equivalent in the BS degree. English proficiency is required (TOEFL, IELTS, or Duolingo), with waivers for certain applicants. Official transcripts and degree certificates are mandatory.
PhD students at KFUPM benefit from a comprehensive scholarship package, including a stipend, free furnished on-campus housing, utilities, maintenance, air tickets for international students, medical/dental care, subsidized meals, free tuition, free textbooks, and access to recreational facilities. Additional financial benefits may be available for research assistants and conference participation. The postdoctoral position is also open, with application details provided via the Microsoft Forms link.
The application deadline is January 10, 2026. Interested candidates should apply through the KFUPM application portal and review the detailed requirements. For lab-specific inquiries, contact Dr. Hasan Masrur. This opportunity is ideal for students interested in industrial engineering, AI, data science, and energy systems research.
