Postdoc in Explainable and Collaborative AI for Reinforcement Learning and Planning

Postdoc opportunity at Eindhoven University of Technology (TU/e) in human-centric, explainable, and collaborative AI , with a focus on reinforcement learning , planning , and sequential decision-making . The position is embedded in the AI for Decision-Making cluster of the Information Systems group in the Faculty of Industrial Engineering and Innovation Sciences, and is connected to the European PEER AI project. The research goal is to develop novel human-centric approaches that help humans better understand and trust AI assistants, while also enabling AI systems to better understand and support human users. Possible research directions include interactive and responsive explanation methods for automated decision-making, reinforcement learning and planning methods that can propose multiple solutions and adapt over time, and integrated loops combining learning, planning, user feedback, and explanation. The role also includes contributing to the management of a work package in a large Horizon Europe project and coordinating with international partners. Eligibility highlights: applicants should hold a PhD in Artificial Intelligence, Computer Science, or a comparable domain; have strong theoretical and practical experience in AI and sequential decision-making; possess strong programming skills in Python and/or Java; and demonstrate high-quality academic research output, excellent English, communication and leadership skills, and the ability to manage complex projects. Funding and conditions: this is a one-year full-time postdoc appointment. Salary is €3,546–€5,538 per month (scale 10), plus year-end bonus and vacation pay, with additional employment benefits and support for international candidates.
