Postdoctoral Position in Biopharmacy (100%)
The Biopharmacy group at the Department of Pharmaceutical Sciences, University of Basel, is offering a full-time postdoctoral position focused on the mechanisms underlying drug absorption, distribution, metabolism, and excretion (ADME). The group’s research centers on the role of drug transporters and drug-metabolizing enzymes, investigating how genetic variants and other factors contribute to interindividual differences in drug response and safety. Using a translational approach, the team integrates preclinical in vitro and in vivo studies with clinical investigations to identify predictive factors for pharmacokinetic behavior and therapeutic outcomes.
The successful candidate will join an interdisciplinary team and contribute to ongoing studies in drug ADME, pharmacogenetics, and pharmacokinetics. Responsibilities include developing and conceptualizing research questions, designing experimental strategies to elucidate the role of drug transporters and metabolizing enzymes, critically analyzing data, publishing results in peer-reviewed journals, and presenting findings at scientific meetings. The postdoc will also supervise and mentor junior researchers, participate in teaching activities in Biopharmacy, and foster collaborative relationships with internal and external partners.
Applicants must have a PhD in Pharmaceutical Sciences or a closely related field, a strong background in pharmacokinetics, and experience with in vivo animal or clinical studies. A proven publication record with at least two first-author papers in reputable international journals is required. Excellent communication skills, curiosity, and motivation are essential. Prior expertise in analytical techniques and/or molecular biology is considered an asset.
The position is based in the Pharmacenter, an interactive environment with multiple research groups in Pharmaceutical Sciences. The appointment is for one year, with the possibility of renewal for an additional year, and offers a salary according to university regulations. The position will be available from May 1st, 2026.
Applications must be submitted online by March 1st, 2026. Required documents include a CV, a motivation letter (maximum 2 pages), a concise outline of a potential research idea (maximum 1 page), and names and contact information of three references. Applications via email, postal services, or agencies will not be considered. For further information, contact Prof. Dr. Henriette Meyer zu Schwabedissen at [email protected].
